Taylor Pierce hit a school-record nine 3-pointers for Idaho on Saturday, fueling a huge scoring burst in the second half as the Vandals posted a 97-65 victory over Iowa State in the Riviera Division of the women’s Cancun Challenge.
Idaho (5-1) hit 13 of its 20 3-pointers in the second half and scored 65 points in the sat two quarters. Geraldine McCorkell had 24 points and 12 rebounds, with Connie Ballestero adding 12 points and eight assists.
Iowa State (2-3) got 28 points, 12 rebounds and five assists from Seanna Johnson, with Jadda Buckley adding 15 points and five assists.
The Vandals were so hot from long range, they actually shot better from there (47.2 percent) than they did overall from the field (46.7 percent). Idaho was also very good with the ball, committing just six turnovers and ringing up 21 assists.
