FORT WORTH, TX – With a potent offense filling the scorebook and a tight defense controlling the night, TCU rolled past Houston Baptist on Thursday in one of the U.S.-based games of the 2015 Cancun Challenge.
The Frogs (2-0) will play host to South Dakota State in another U.S. game on Saturday before tipping off in Mexico on Nov. 24 against Rhode Island. The Huskies (1-2) are at Illinois State on Saturday, then will take on South Dakota State in Mexico on Nov. 24.
TCU’s Devonta Abron, who scored just four points in the team’s season-opening win versus Southeast Louisiana, poured in 19 points against the Huskies. Chauncey Collins and Vlad Brodziansky each scored 13 points, and Malique Trent scored 12 points. JD Miller added 11 points for the Frogs, who shot right at 50 percent from the field and a superior 80 percent (24-30) from the free-throw line.
Houston Baptist was paced by Anthony Odunsi, who scored 14 points to go with five assists and four rebounds. Colter Lasher scored 11 points, and the Huskies were outrebounds, 36-28.
