Tabatha Richardson-Smith’s big second half helped Seton Hall come back against Northern Iowa on Friday, giving the Pirates a 57-49 victory in the Riviera Division of the women’s Cancun Challenge.
Richardson-Smith, who was the tournament MVP, scored 20 points and added seven rebounds for the undefeated Pirates (7-0), who scored just 18 points in the first half but rang up 39 points in the second half. Aleesha Powell scored 17 points and chipped in with six rebounds.
Northern Iowa (3-2) got 15 points and six rebounds from Madison Weekly. The Panthers shot just 24 percent from the field and were a chilly 4-of-31 from 3-point range. Both teams were 15-of-22 from the free-throw line.
Lubirdia Gordon had six blocked shots for the Pirates.
The all-tournament team included: Richardson-Smith, Weekly, Chelsee Black of UAB, Miah Spencer of NC State, Aaliyah Whiteside of Georgia Tech and Kaylah Keys of High Point.
