LOUISIANA TECH 63, EVANSVILLE 61
Derric Jean drilled a 3-pointer with less than a second remaining to drive Louisiana Tech past Evansville, 63-61, giving the Bulldogs the Riviera Division championship at the Cancun Challenge.
Evansville took a 61-60 lead on two free throws by Dru Smith with 12 seconds remaining. After a timeout, the Bulldogs ran a play that led to a long jumper, but the ball bounced away and nearly out of bounds before a Bulldog player grabbed it and tossed it back into play. Jean was waiting on the left wing as the ball was kicked out to him, and he hit nothing but net on his shot. The Aces got a halfcourt shot from Smith at the buzzer, but the ball bounced off the backboard.
Daquan Bracey had 17 points and five assists for the Bulldogs (5-0). Jean had 13 points, and Jocobi Boykins added eight points and 12 rebounds. Louisiana Tech was just 5-of-23 from 3-point range.
Evansville (5-1) got 15 points from Blake SImmons, 12 points from Smith, 11 points from Ryan Taylor and 10 points from Dainiu Chatkevicius.
