Tiana Mangakahia scores 18 points and Digna Strautmane nets 16 as the No. 14 Syracuse University women’s basketball team holds off Kansas State 70-61 in day one of the Cancun Challenge.
The Wildcats took a 52-48 lead with 8:49 left in the fourth quarter but Syracuse went on a 20-4 run and outscored KState 22-13 in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.
Four Wildcat players scored in double figures led by Peyton Williams’ 14 points and eight rebounds. Kayla Goth Kali Jones and Christianna Carr each finished with 10 points.
Kansas State struggled from three-point range only hitting four of 21 attempts. Syracuse wasn’t much better connecting on six from long range on 21 attempts.
The Orange led by as many as 14 points, have won three games in a row and improve to 4-1 on the season. It’s the first loss of the season for the Wildcats who fall to 3-1.
Syracuse will take on Princeton on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET and Kansas State will face No. 16 DePaul at 11 a.m. ET.
