Geraldine McCorkell scored 18 points and added eight rebounds for Idaho on Friday, as the Vandals topped Texas State, 75-55, in Mayan Division play at the women’s Cancun Challenge.
Christina Salvatore chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds, and Ali Forde added 15 points,10 rebounds and four blocked shots as the Vandals (4-1) pulled away in the second half after holding a one-point lead at the halftime break.
Idaho’s inside-outside offense was very effective, shooting 52 percent from the field. The Vandals also led in rebounds, 45-30, which helped lessen the damage from having 19 turnovers.
The Bobcats (2-3) got 14 points off the bench from Toshua Leavitt. Texas State shot just 30 percent from the field and 6-of-25 (24 percent) from 3-point range.
Idaho will play Iowa State on Saturday at 11a.m. ET; Texas State faces No. 12 Duke in the final game of the tournament, Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET.
