Bryanna Fernstrom had her second career double-double for Iowa State on Thursday, posting 25 points and 10 rebounds as the Cyclones defeated Texas State, 83-61, in Mayan Division play at the women’s Cancun Challenge.
Iowa State (2-1), led throughout, with Fernstrom scoring 11 points in the first five minutes of action. Seanna Johnson added 19 points and 11 rebounds, with Nicole Blaskowsky adding 14 points and hitting four 3-pointers.
Texas State (2-2) had more than half its shots come from 3-point range, hitting 12 overall on 38 attempts. But the Cyclones held a solid 44-23 edge in rebounding and limited the Bobcats to just x free throws.
Texas State was led by Kaitlin Walla, who had 14 points. Taeler Deer scored 12 points and added six rebounds and three steals.
The Bobcats will play Idaho on Friday at 11 a.m. ET, and the Cyclones will take on Duke at 1:30 p.m. ET.
