FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Event officials have announced the women’s field for the 2014 Cancun Challenge Tournaments held at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
Eight women’s Division I college basketball teams will each play three games at the resort on Nov. 27-29. The Cancun Challenge Riviera Tournament features Florida State, Furman, Hartford, and Washington. The Cancun Challenge Mayan Tournament features Charlotte, Montana, Princeton, and Wake Forest.
This year’s field includes six teams that made postseason appearances in 2014 including Charlotte (WNIT Round One), Florida State (NCAA Round Two), Furman (WNIT Round One), Montana (WNIT Round Two), Princeton (WNIT Round Two), and Washington (WNIT Quarterfinals). Montana is making its third appearance in the Cancun Challenge (2014, 2010, 2008) and Hartford (2010), Florida State (2008), and Washington (2008) each with their second.
Each team will play one game per day in a true classic format. Specific matchups and game times will be announced in July. All games in Mexico are played in the Central Time Zone.
The Cancun Challenge is one of the most unique basketball events held each year. Teams stay and play at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya near Cancun, Mexico. The resort’s convention center ballroom is converted into an arena which provides fans a special close-up view of the games. Upon arrival, teams and fans are treated to a spectacular all-inclusive environment with games, practices, food, and fun all in one location.
Seating is limited for this exclusive event, and fans should book land travel packages through Triple Crown Sports for admission into games in Mexico. The Cancun Challenge is owned and produced by Triple Crown Sports, based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Triple Crown Sports also produces the men’s Cancun Challenge, a Division I college basketball tournament during the same week at the same resort, as well as the Preseason and Postseason Women’s NIT. The 2014 tournament will mark the 10th year of the women’s Cancun Challenge.
