The Bradley Braves hold off the Penn State Nittany Lions in the final seconds to win the Riviera Division of the 2018 Cancun Challenge.
Leading 59-56 with less than two seconds on the clock, Penn State’s Lamar Stevens was fouled. He hit the first shot and then purposely missed the second. The ball was tipped back to Myles Dread who couldn’t connect on the tying three pointer as the buzzer sounded.
Elijah Childs finished with a team-high 18 points for the Braves and Darrell Brown added 16.
Stevens finished with a game-high 28 points for the Nittany Lions which was his fifth-straight 20-plus point game of the season. Stevens finished with 99 total points in four games which set a new Cancun Challenge record which had been set by SMU's Jahmal McMurray earlier in the night (98).
There were 14 lead changes and 8 ties during the course of the game. Bradley improves to 5-1 on the season while Penn State falls to 3-2.
This was the first meeting between the two programs since 1998 where the Braves defeated the Nittany Lions 63-54. Bradley is now 4-2 all-time against Penn State.
Bradley becomes the third Missouri Valley team to win the Riviera Division of the Cancun Challenge (Wichita State – 2012 and Northern Iowa – 2014).
