PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX – Maria Dias converted a layup with one second left in the game, and Idaho State pocketed a hard-fought victory over Rhode Island during the Riviera Tournament of the Women’s Cancun Challenge.
The Rams (4-5) held a 47-39 lead with six minutes to go after a 3-pointer from Harsimran Kaur. The Bengals (3-5) fought their way back, tying the score at 48-all on a shot from Kacey Spink with 2:35 left. Anaelle Dutat’s basket for Rhode Island tied it again at 50-all with 46 seconds to go; the Rams turned the ball over with five second left, and Dias came through with the game winner.
Sophia Covello had 13 points for Idaho State, and Halle Wright closed with 11 points and six rebounds. Dias finished with nine points – the Bengals prevailed despite 19 turnovers.
Rhode Island shot just 3-for-22 from 3-point range. Kaur closed with 10 points.
