Iowa remains undefeated, flexes strong defensive effort vs. BYU

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX – Iowa came strong with its defensive effort late Friday, holding BYU to 30 percent shooting from the floor and forcing 20 turnovers as the Hawkeyes moved to 8-0 on the year at the Women’s Cancun Challenge.

Hannah Stuelke had 16 points and eight rebounds for Iowa, which outscored the Cougars (6-2) by a margin of 43-29 in the second half. Addison O’Grady had 12 points, Aaliyah Guyton added 11 points and Sydney Affolter closed with 10 rebounds.

Iowa was again without the services of leading scorer Lucy Olsen – the Hawkeyes finished with a 37-28 edge in rebounds, were 11-for-23 from 3-point range and worked through their 23 turnovers.

The Cougars were led by Kemery Congdon’s 13 points; Amari Whiting scored 11 points and Lauren Davenport added eight points.

After the game, event officials announced the All-Riviera Tournament team:
