CREIGHTON 57, GEORGIA TECH 46

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX — Everyone loves a holiday vacation to Mexico, but nobody does more than the Creighton Bluejays (4-1), who defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 57-46 in their opening game of the Riviera Tournament at the 2023 Cancun Challenge.

The Bluejays remain unbeaten in the tournament, spanning over three appearances (2012, 2019, 2023).

In the first-ever meeting of the two programs, Georgia Tech's sluggish shooting (2-13, 15.9% from the field) aided the Bluejays to an early 19-6 lead after the first quarter.

The Yellow Jackets (4-1) seemed to shake off the rust in the second quarter, firing 8-of-13 from the field while holding Creighton to just 21.4% shooting. Georgia Tech headed into the locker room down just three, 27-24 at the half.

After a 9-0 run to start the third quarter, Creighton regained control of the game and the Yellow Jackets offense, holding them to just 3-of-15 shooting (20%) in the frame, extending their lead to 46-32.

Jim Flanery's Bluejays never looked back after the hot start in the second half, thanks to a balanced scoring attack led by senior guard Lauren Jensen's 16 points while Morgan Maly chipped in 11.

Yellow Jackets junior guard Kayla Blackshear tallied 14 points and 7 rebounds, while sophomore Tonie Morgan added  12 points and 9 boards.

Creighton's next game of the Cancun Challenge will be against Michigan State at 4 p.m. ET on Friday. Georgia Tech faces off against New Mexico at 6:30 p.m. ET to follow. All games during the tournament can be watched on FloHoops.
