Isaiah Williams scored 18 points for Georgia State, which tallied a consistent 41 points in each half against Eastern Kentucky to claim the Mayan Division championship at the Cancun Challenge.
Justin Seymour scored 15 points for the Panthers (3-2); Malik Belevi chipped in 11 points, and Willie Clayton fought his way to nine points and 15 rebounds as Georgia State was 9-of-18 from 3-point range and forced 18 turnovers.
Eastern Kentucky was led by Nick Mayo, who had 21 points and six rebounds.Asante Gist added 16 points and five assists, and Zach Charles closed with 10 points and eight assists. Eastern Kentucky was just 6-of-31 (19 percent) from the 3-point line.
The all-tournament team, which is drawn from performances at both the US and Mexico games of the Cancun Challenge, consists of: Mayo, Seymour, Damon Lynn of NJIT, Brandon Boyd of Idaho State, Jaylen Babb-Harrison of Eastern Kentucky and the event’s most valuable player, Georgia State’s D’Marcus Simonds.
