Tim Coleman hit three shots for NJIT in the final minutes against Idaho State, and the Highlanders iced the game with two free throws by Damon Lynn with 4.7 seconds left to defeat Idaho State in the third-place game of the Mayan Division at the Cancun Challenge.
Lynn hit six 3-pointers and closed with 24 points for NJIT (3-3), while Coleman addd 21 points and 11 rebounds. Coleman hit a layup with 3:24 to go to give his team a 64-63 lead, and he added a 3-pointer with 2:04 to go to make it 67-63. Two free throws from Geno Luzcando of Idaho State (0-5) and a steal and layup by Brandon Boyd tied it at 67-all with 58 seconds to go, but Coleman answered with a jumper at the end of the shot clock to make it 69-67 with 31 seconds remaining.
NJIT had a 34-23 edge in rebounding and hit 11 3-pointers; Rob Ukawuba added 12 points and six rebounds.
Boyd scored 26 points for Idaho State; Luzcando added 13 points and five rebounds. The Bengals hit 16 of their 19 free throw attempts.
