After trailing by eight points with about 10 minutes to play, Eastern Kentucky scored with seven seconds left to tie Idaho State, then nailed four 3-pointers in overtime to pull off the victory in Game 2 of Mayan Division action at the Cancun Challenge.
Sophomore Nick Mayo, who closed with 21 points and 10 rebounds, tipped in a missed shot with 6.6 seconds left to tie it for the Colonels (2-3). Mayo then hit a 3-pointer with 3:46 left in the extra session, and Eastern Kentucky used two bombs by Dillon Avare and one by Isaac McGlone to eventually pull ahead.
Jaylen Babb-Harrison added 20 points for Eastern Kentucky, which will play Georgia State in the Mayan Division championship game on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Idaho State (0-4) will play NJIT in the third-palce game.
The Bengals were led by Brandon Boyd, who had 25 points. Geno Luzcando added 20 points as Idaho State shot 51 percent from the field but had 30 turnovers.
After the score was tied at 65-all in regulation, Mayo hit back-to-back shots to make it 69-65 with 2:40 to go. Luzcando countered with a tip-in to tie it at 69-all, then made a driving layup with 46 seconds left to put the Bengals up, 71-69.
