And if you’re the type to want to spread around some of that good fortune, the Playa del Carmen Rotary Seaside group has a way to help.
Two of the local non-profits operating in and around Playa del Carmen include KKIS and Kicks 4 Kids. Keeping Kids In School is looking for donations of school supplies, while the Kicks program is designed to get safe and sturdy footwear to children living in the remote villages of the peninsula. Fans of the women’s and men’s teams competing in the Cancun Challenge are being asked to consider bringing school supplies and/or shoes from the USA to the event.
More than 500 early-elementary students received aid from KKIS this school year; in some cases, the assistance was enough to keep certain children from having to leave school entirely. About 300 pairs of shoes were distributed via the Kicks 4 Kids outreach – children in these outlying villages are subject to insect and snake bites on their feet, and Rotary Seaside typically gets the shoes to the children around Christmas.
When bringing items into Mexico for the KKIS and Kicks 4 Kids programs, it’s preferred for you to designate those as gifts and not a donation at customs. It's also best to split up the items among the parties in your group.
