AUBURN, Georgia – Freshman Jared Harper helped Auburn ease past Georgia State on Monday, scoring 19 points to go with four rebounds as the Tigers prevailed in one of the U.S. games of the men’s Cancun Challenge.
The Tigers (2-0) were bolstered by redshirt freshman Danjel Purifoy, who chipped in with the same 19 points and four rebounds, and sophomore Horace Spencer, who added 12 points. Mustapha Heron, Auburn’s first 5-star recruit, closed with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Panthers (1-1) were led by senior Jeremy Hollowell, who filled the scorebook with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists before fouling out. Hollowell played two years at Indiana before transferring. Justin Seymour also scored 20 points for Georgia State.
Auburn went to the free throw line 39 times, making 26, and forced 18 turnovers. Georgia State was just 5-of-23 from 3-point range. Auburn will host Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, and Georgia State will take on Purdue on Friday in two more U.S. games of the Cancun Challenge.
